Process Control System Essay - 275 Words

Process Control System (Essay Sample) Content: PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEMby Name:CourseTutorUniversityCityDateProcess Control SystemIntroductionProcess control systems are computerized systems that control physical processes that are on-going in an industry. These systems are designed to make decisions automatically that can adjust the production process of an industry. Good examples of industries which use process control systems are assembly lines of car manufacturer, petroleum refineries and many more. This paper seeks to discuss the impact of process control systems and particularly Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller.Impact of Process control system and Proportional Integral Derivative (PID)Process control system has impacted greatly over the years mainly shaped by technology. Its main use in industrial operations was to minimize negative environmental impact, improve safety and to optimize processes (Patrick Fardo, 2009).ÂAll activities in an industry that require continuous monitoring by engi neers and support staff should incorporate process control system to aid in managing those particular processes. With the process control systems in place, safety of both workers and the community around an industry is improved. This can be attributed to the fact that some processes expose workers to dangers such as radiation to dangerous rays, corrosion from risky liquids and sharp objects in production processes. Efficiency in an industry that uses computer systems gets improved. This is because the human element which can get fatigued or makes poor decision in the production process is eliminated (Patrick Fardo, 2009). These systems basically make decisions that result in physical changes therefore resulting in the output of the industry. The Proportional-Integrated-Derivative (PID) controllers which offer sturdy performance in various operating conditions have been commonly used. This is because of the simplicity in their functioning allowing engineers to operate them in a straightforward way. This system contains three coefficients which are proportional, integral and derivative (Visioli, 2006).ÂThese coefficients are altered to obtain optimal response in production systems. The system uses a sensor t...
